The Marana Town Council unanimously appointed Jon Post as the townโ€™s new mayor Tuesday night.

Jon Post has been serving as Maranaโ€™s interim mayor since November, when longtime mayor Ed Honea died.

Post

Post said Tuesday night it was never a position he wanted because of Honeaโ€™s longtime efforts as Mayor.

โ€œYou know, everyday I still think of Ed. I loved being second behind Ed, it was one of the best times of my life,โ€ Post said. โ€œI thought I was always just going to be right behind Ed, it was a very great place to be.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t ever truly have aspirations to be mayor because Ed did such a great job, that he made it such a great place to serve ... With his passing, I appreciate the council putting their trust in me to move the town forward, and I wonโ€™t let you down.โ€

He will serve until a special election is held in 2026 to serve out the remaining two years of what wouldโ€™ve been Honeaโ€™s term, the town said. Whoever is elected at that time will serve until the regularly scheduled general election in 2028 is held, town attorney Jane Fairall said during the council meeting.

Ziegler

Post served on Maranaโ€™s planning and zoning commission prior to his time on the council, which he was first appointed to in January 2008, following Tim Escobedoโ€™s resignation in December 2007, according to the town. He was appointed as vice mayor in 2013. He is the owner of Post Farms and the Marana Pumpkin Patch, according to the town.

Councilmember Roxanne Ziegler was appointed to be vice mayor at the same meeting. She was elected to her fifth term in November last year, the town says.
