The Arizona Daily Star won top honors in two state journalism contests this month.
Reporter Tony Davis was named Journalist of the Year by the Arizona Press Club.
Kelly Presnell is the Arizona Newspapers Associationβs Photographer of the Year, for the third consecutive year.
And the Star was named Newspaper of the Year by the Arizona Newspapers Association.
In honoring Davis with the Press Clubβs most prestigious annual award, a judge wrote:
βTony Davisβ investigative reporting on two Tucson-area projects threatening the environment β a housing development near the San Pedro River and the Rosemont mine β laid bare the political influences that shaped key decisions. He got people to talk on the record β hard to do in these situations β and his reporting had impact. His work made a difference to his region and possibly to future policy.β
ANA judges praised Presnell for βa unique and well-rounded body of work. ... Excellent imagery, well done.β
