With the latest poll results showing her trailing by nearly 4 percentage points, Republican challenger Kim DeMarco conceded the race to incumbent Sharon Bronson on Wednesday, assuring a continued 3-2 Democratic majority on the Board of Supervisors.
In a post on her campaignβs Facebook page, DeMarco wrote, βIt is with great sadness that I tell you the Pima County Board of Supervisors will continue status quo. I want to thank all of you for your support and the kindness that you have shown me and (my husband).β
For her part, Bronson said her win in the District 3 race was βgood news for all the residents of Pima County.β
βI think itβs good news that weβre going to continue with the economic development success that weβve experienced,β she said.
County election officials told the Star on Wednesday morning that tens of thousands of ballots remained to be counted, and final results likely wouldnβt be ready until the weekend.
District 1
In the only other close supervisors race, Democratic challenger Brian Bickel threw in the towel Wednesday morning after a fairly close race against Republican District 1 incumbent Ally Miller. The most recent results available showed Bickel 7 percentage points behind in the heavily Republican district.
βIβm not sitting here hoping against hope that things are going to turn around. As far as a concession, I will freely concede that I have lost this race,β Bickel said, adding later: βWe gave it our best shot and came up a little short.β
Miller handily defeated Republican primary challenger John Winchester in August by a much larger margin. She did not return calls for comment on her general-election win.
Other board races
Newcomer Republican Steve Christy handily won the District 4 race, as did incumbent Democrat Richard ElΓas in District 5. District 2 Democratic incumbent RamΓ³n Valadez faced no competition in his race.
