Pima County has completed counting of 8,500 early ballots left over from Tuesday night's special election.Β

The newly-counted ballots largely mirrored the 178,000 counted on election night, with a majority of voters in Pima County were opposed to Prop 123.

Currently, nearly 54 percent in Pima County have voted against the measure.

Statewide, voters are backing Prop 123 but only by a narrow margin. As of Wednesday evening, 50.48 percent of voters had backed the measure.

The proposal, if approved, would pump $3.5 billion in new money into the state's K-12 school system over 10 years using general fund and trust land cash.

On Friday, Pima County is expected to completed counting ballots, with 1,300 conditional ballots still being processed by the Pima County Recorder's Office.
