The donations flowing into Bernie Sanders’ campaign coffers from Tucsonans were often ten and twenty dollar bills, not the big checks typically associated with major campaigns.

Those small donations, from thousands of supporters, helped Sanders to raise the most money of any presidential candidate in most local ZIP codes across the city, Federal Election Commission records show. Still, former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton beat Sanders in several ZIP codes.

Republican candidates — Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush — each collected the most donations in one local ZIP code. In those three ZIP codes they brought in more money than any of their GOP rivals as well as the two Democrats.

However, some victories look better on paper. For example, the Trump campaign received the most donations in the north-side 85703 ZIP code — but it came from a single donation of $500.
