A memorial service to remember those who died in poverty or homelessness in Pima County will be held Friday.

The event will run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, which is at West Fort Lowell Road and North Oracle Road.

The service is open to the public and will be held at the west end of the cemetery in the county plot, according to a news release from the Primavera Foundation. There will be music, readings, reflection and speeches from elected officials.

It is estimated that on any given night there are 5,000 people experiencing homelessness in Pima County, Primavera said in the release.

Primavera and other local groups are joining a national effort to commemorate National Homeless Persons Memorial Day with the event.
