The body of an adult female was discovered in Redington Pass Friday, near a vehicle that's been linked to a missing Tucson woman and her son, authorities said.
The 2016 red Ford Focus associated with Belen Potts, 55, and her son Ernest Potts, 29, was located by hikers near Mile Post 11, said Tucson Police Department spokesman, Sgt. Pete Dugan.
The pair had not been seen since the night of July 14, but had mentioned they were planning to go hiking at Redington Pass the following day.
Hikers spotted the vehicle off the roadway and down an embankment, and located the deceased person near the vehicle, Dugan said.
Pima County Sheriff's Department search and rescue teams responded to the area and recovered the body. The woman hasn't been positively identified, but next of kin for Belen Potts has been notified of the discovery, Dugan said.
No one else was located near the vehicle, and it's currently unknown as to how the vehicle ended up down the embankment.
More information will be released as the investigation continues, but anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
