Reid Park Zoo

Nico the giant anteater wanders through his yard at the Reid Park Zoo.

Reid Park Zoo is offering free admission to all active and retired military personnel this Independence Day.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, folks who show a military ID won't have to pay a penny to enter the zoo.

Plus, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the zoo will provide watermelon goodies to the animals, along with watermelon Eegees and other treats for visitors.

For those who are unable to make a trip to the zoo on the Fourth, Reid Park Zoo will also hold free admission to military personnel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 6 during the zoo's Summer Safari Nights. Enjoy cooler temperatures, live music and, of course, animal sight-seeing.

Other military discounts on the Fourth:
