Kitt Peak National Observatory

Stars swirl around the North Star, just to the left of the Kitt Peak observatory, in a 40-minute exposure.

There's still a few days left to view the Geminid meteor shower, and according to a national publication, Tucson is conveniently located near one of the world's best spots to catch the show.

The Geminids, which are visible very year between Dec. 4 and Dec. 17, are named after the constellation Gemini.

International Business Times says that because of this year's December supermoon, "natural light pollution" has created a viewing obstacle for many to be able to see the white or yellow meteors.

But there's good news for Arizonans, in that International Business Times has named Kitt Peak National Observatory one of the world's best viewing spots. The article mentions the observatory's huge collection of optical telescopes and the "clear, dark skies of the Sonoran Desert" which are apparently a favorite among astronomers.

Check out the article here, which also gives an option for online viewing of the shower, in case a trip to Kitt Peak isn't possible by this weekend.
