Northwest Fire District celebrated their outgoing chief and welcomed a new leader in front of nearly 200 people at a ceremony Friday.
Employees, community members and elected representatives celebrated retiring Chief Michael J. Brandt, who spent 41 years in service.
He was hired at Northwest Fire after retiring as assistant chief with Tucson Fire Department in 2005. Seven years later, Brandt would become the district's fire chief.
"Chief Brandt has led the district with honor and distinction and has been instrumental in fostering the Districtβs status as a premier emergency service provider," a Northwest Fire news release said.
Norman Kent Bradley III was sworn in as the new chief of Northwest Fire District. Bradley, who started with the district in 1999, was unanimously voted as successor by the district's governing board.
He is the third chief since the fire district was formed in 1984, the release said, and first to rise through the ranks from recruit firefighter to chief.
