Louis Taylor, who served 42 years in prison for the downtown Pioneer Hotel fire in 1970, pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted armed robbery.

In July, Taylor was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Riverpark Inn, 777 W. Cushing St., Tucson police said.

Police identified Taylor through forensic and video evidence collected at the scene, and said he confronted the hotel clerk and produced a baseball bat while demanding money from the register.

Taylor was charged with armed robbery with a weapon, kidnapping and aggravated assault- all felonies- Pima County Superior Court records show.

On Tuesday, Taylor accepted an agreement with the Pima County Attorney's office, pleading guilty to one amended count of attempted armed robbery, according to court records.

He's scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 5. by Judge Janet Bostwick.
