Dr. Theresa Cullen

Pima County is preparing to transition to a new public health director during the coronavirus pandemic.Β

Dr. Theresa Cullen officially comes on board on June 1. She has served as a physician within the federal sector as well as for academic institutions with the goal of improving health equity and helping diverse communities achieve health justice.

She will replace Dr. Bob England, who has served as interim director since last June. When Cullen comes on board, England will stay on as a part-time physician to see Pima County through the initial phase of the coronavirus pandemic.Β

England took on the interim role after Marcy Flanagan left to serve as director of the Maricopa County Health Department, where England retired from.Β

Cullen will work part-time for Pima County starting Monday, May 4, serving as vice chair of the county’s Back To Business Task Force, which will help determine the criteria, rules and guidance for reopening the economy as the effects of the pandemic lessen.
