For people uninterested in traditional Black Friday sales, the Pima Animal Care Center is offering a different kind of event and what they say is the perfect opportunity to get a jumpstart on holiday gift giving.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., PACC is hosting a "Black Fur-Day" adoption party at the main shelter, with waived adoption fees on all pets and a free pet starter kit for all adopters, according to a PACC news release.
The shelter, located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road, will also have food, music and raffle prizes. Other PACC pets will also be available to adopt at the Petco stores at 5625 E. River Road and 585 E. Wetmore Road, the release said.
The events are made possible by a $15,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to help place pets in loving homes just in time for the holidays.
The shelter's weekend goal is to save 300 pets, the release said.
Central Pet in Amado, south of Tucson, is also taking part in the celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a variety of adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Central Pet is located at 2875 I-19 Frontage Road.
All pets adopted from PACC, Petco stores and Central Pet will go home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and with a voucher for a free vet visit. A standard $18 licensing fee applies to all adult dogs.
PACC's Black Fur-Day party will have free music, food, activities for kids and pet giveaways from Petco. Radio personalities from 106.3 FM The Groove will be on hand from noon to 2 p.m., along with pizza from Papa Murphy's. During the same hours, Central Pet visitors will be treated to free Sonoran hot dogs, the release said.
While the Black-Fur Day event is only Friday, adoption fees at PACC's main shelter will be waived through Monday, Nov. 27, the release said.
