County dreaming up ways to fund road fixes

City of Tucson worker Willy Granillo spreads asphalt over a pothole as he and other workers repair Helen Street east of Campbell Avenue.

Monday marks the start of two weeks of pavement preservation work on First Avenue between River and Ina Road Monday.

From Monday, April 24 to Thursday, May 11, county workers will be crack sealing and paving the roadway from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the Pima County Department of Transportation.

Motorists can expect lane restrictions and reduced speeds, with flaggers and pilot cars assisting with traffic through the work zone.

The work is likely to cause minor delays and the schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, April 24th through Monday, May 1st: Contractors will be crack sealing and patching the roadway.
  • Tuesday, May 2nd through Thursday, May 4th: Contractors will be micro sealing the roadway.
  • Tuesday, May 9th through Thursday, May 11th: Contractors will be performing another micro seal treatment to the roadway

The schedule is subject to change, based upon mechanical failure or inclement weather.
