A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday morning by a train in Marana, officials say.

The crash involving a Union Pacific freight train happened about 9 a.m at a railroad crossing between West Ina and West Cortaro Farms roads, a department spokesman said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the person was not released Friday afternoon.

Union Pacific is investigating the incident.
