A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near a busy intersection on the south side Wednesday night.

The injured person is in critical, but stable condition, said Tucson Police Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a department spokeswoman, in a tweet.

South Campbell Avenue between East Irvington Road and East Wyoming Street is shut down while traffic detectives conduct an investigation, said Bay.

Campbell will be closed for several hours. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

No further information was immediately available.
