A serious vehicle collision involving a bus stop at Grant and Alvernon in Tucson.  Fire department reported five critically-injured patients. Three patients have died.

UPDATE: 2 in weekend wreck at Tucson bus stop have died

Five people were injured when a vehicle crashed into a bus stop after a prior collision with a second vehicle.

All five people were taken to a hospital, with multiple patients suffering life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson police spokesman.

The crash occurred near Grant Road and Alvernon Way at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday. A two-vehicle collision led  one of the vehicles to hit several people waiting at the bus stop.

Northbound and southbound Alvernon Way from Grant Road to Pima Street is shut down.

Drivers should avoid the area.
