Due to overcrowding, Pima Animal Care Center is offering a weekend adoption special.

With dogs housed two to a kennel in the main shelter, Pima Animal Care Center is offering a Name-Your-Own-Adoption-Fee special this weekend.

The special comes as PACC officials work to end its battle with pneumovirus, a canine upper-respiratory infection that can lead to pneumonia in some dogs. Earlier this month, the shelter was seeking temporary foster homes for nearly 100 dogs in the tent that had been exposed to the virus and needed to be isolated.

While the tent has been thoroughly cleaned and is ready to resume normal operations, the kennels in the main adoption floor are very full, with nearly all of them housing at least two and up to four dogs, according to a PACC news release.

โ€œWe are proud that Pima County residents support us in being a lifesaving shelter,โ€ PACC Director Kristen Auerbach said in the news release. โ€œAnd right now, we need lifesavers to step up and help. Our dogs are in very crowded conditions, and our cats need help too. Please come out to adopt.โ€

The Name-Your-Own-Adoption-Fee special is for all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and runs through end of business on Sunday.

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd. and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this weekend.
