Plans for a new park in Oro Valley call for an interactive musical play area where kids can bang, clonk and ding for their enjoyment (and maybe your annoyment).

The 2-acre Nakoma Sky community park would be located on First Avenue near Naranja Drive.

The proposed park would be built, owned and maintained by a private developer but be open to the public during the day, said Chad Daines, the townโ€™s principal planner.

Itโ€™s part of a much larger, 79-acre development that will be a La Posada senior living campus to be built in phases.

The idea for the park is a place for people of all ages to play, said Keri Silvyn, an attorney for La Posada. โ€œHospitality and healthy living is really at the heart of the project,โ€ she said.

The plans for the park include a covered playground, a concrete labyrinth similar to the one at La Posadaโ€™s Green Valley campus, either a desert garden or a grassy area, a walking path with benches and exercise stations along the way, and shaded ramadas with picnic tables and grills.

The musical features could be kind of like big outdoor xylophones. The park would also have an interactive sculpture (think giant critters kids can climb on).

Until there are sewer facilities installed for nearby homes, there wouldnโ€™t be any bathrooms at the park, but people could use the facilities inside the La Posada lobby, Silvyn said.

The Oro Valley Conceptual Design Review Board is scheduled to consider the park plan in August, following a recent approval from the townโ€™s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The park plan needs the final approval of the Town Council.
