A man set who fire to his north-side apartment after barricading himself inside during a standoff with Tucson police officers, was identified as 56-year-old Richard Robertson.
Tucson S.W.A.T personnel and police negotiators were also at the apartment in the 3500 block of East Kleindale Road attempting to get the man to surrender Friday afternoon.
Personnel entered the apartment when the fire started, extinguished the flames and detained the man just before 4 p.m.
Robertson remains in a hospital Saturday afternoon, a news release said.
Originally, Tucson police officers were trying to speak with him about an unrelated matter, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a police spokesman.
He said the man was a suspect in an aggravated assault.
