A woman succumbed to injuries she sustained after a school bus collided into her on Tucson's north side Thursday morning, officials said.
Members of the Tucson police and fire departments were dispatched at 7:00 a.m. to the intersection of North Swan and East Fort Lowell Road.
Personnel found the woman with obvious signs of trauma and quickly transported her to Banner University Medical Center but she died shortly after arriving.
Police identified the pedestrian as 61-year-old Kerry OβDonnell.
Detectives later determined OβDonnell was walking westbound across North Swan Road in a crosswalk and had a green traffic signal, according to a news release.
The bus, owned by Tucson Unified School District, was traveling in the northbound middle lane approaching a red light at Fort Lowell Road.
The driver did not see OβDonnell or the red light before the colliding into her.Β
Only two students were on the bus at the time of the crash and neither they nor the driver were injured, Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson police spokesman said.
"Tucson Unified School District is deeply saddened by the incident involving one of our school buses this morning," TUSD spokeswoman Michelle Valenzuela wrote in a news release. "Our staff members are cooperating fully with the Tucson Police Departmentβs investigation. As we continue to process what happened, we send our sympathies to all who are affected."
Police are still investigating the incident andhave not made any arrests or citations.
