Some like it hot … but the rest of us know better.

Tucson’s temperatures are expected to be the hottest of the year at the beginning of this week, only to get even hotter, climbing to 109 degrees by Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Some temperatures may range 6 to 10 degrees above normal and close to or above record temperatures in some areas, the service said.

On Monday, the forecast calls for sunny and hot weather with a high near 107 degrees and a slight breeze between 7 and 11 mph.

Tuesday is expected to be sunny but a little cooler with a high of 104 degrees and winds between 6 to 15 mph with a little more of the same on Wednesday.

By Thursday, we’ll wish it was Tuesday with temperatures around 109 degrees and a β€œslight chance” of thunderstorms in the mountains east of Tucson, continuing into the next weekend, the weather service said.

The weather service also warns people to avoid long periods outdoors, drink plenty of water, and to not leave children or pets inside vehicles.
