Summer months are the busiest in the U.S. when it comes to teenagers getting their drivers licenses, but also the deadliest, with an average of six teens dying every day in car crashes, according to a new study.
Personal finance website WalletHub commissioned a study to determine the safest and least costly cities for U.S. teens. WalletHub compared the 50 states across 23 metrics, which included number of teen driver fatalities, average cost of car repairs and DUI laws.
Despite it's strong DUI laws, Arizona didn't fare well, coming in as the 10th worst state for teen drivers.
Here's how Arizona ranked in several key categories, with 1 representing the best and 50, the worst:
- 23rd in teen driver fatalities per teen population
- 39th in teen DUIs per teen population
- 33rd in average cost of car repairs
- 45th in presence of distracted driving or texting-while-driving laws
- 47th in insurance premium increase after adding teen driver to a parent's policy
