With a statewide rise in violent crime reported over the last five years, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Tucson also saw a rise in violent crime.
But one website says that crime rose in Tucson when it didn't in other parts of the state, making it one of the few large Arizona cities where crime is on the rise.
In Tucson, violent crime cases increased from 433 incidents per 100,000 people in 2011 to 496 in 2016, according to a new study by personal finance website 24/7 Wall Street.
That increase equates to a 14.5 percent increase in Tucson, which closely mirrors the state's increase of 15.8 percent, the study says.
While violent crime is on the rise in Tucson and Arizona as a whole, crime is not on the rise in every metro area in the state," the study says. "In the Flagstaff and Prescott metro areas, violent crime is down by 12.0 percent and 18.9 percent, respectively."
