A man arrested in connection with a shooting that left two dead and one injured Saturday night has been identified as 35-year-old Baudelio Camacho, according to Tucson Police.
Officers responded to a shooting in the area of South Forgeus Avenue and East Norton Vista at around 9 p.m. Saturday evening. Upon arrival, the officers found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. The male was transferred to a local hospital where his injuries were determined to be serious, but not life-threatening, according to a news release issued by TPD.
While treating the shooting victim, officers were approached by residents saying that there were additional victims in the 2700 block of South Coconino Vista, the release said.
Officers found two more adult males on that block, also with multiple gunshot wounds. Tucson Fire attempted to render aid, but both males were declared dead at the scene. One victim has been identified as 30-year-old James Jones, the release said. The other's name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
Witnesses were able to provide a description of a car leaving the scene at the time of the shooting. A vehicle matching the description and being driven by Camacho was spotted by an officer in the area shortly after, the release said. Camacho refused to pull over and police pursued until the vehicle crashed into a McDonald's drive-thru at South Sixth Avenue and East 29th Street. Camacho was then taken into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Detectives determined that Camacho and all three of the shooting victims were gang affiliated.
Camacho was arrested on suspicion of unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle and being a prohibited possessor. Additional shooting charges are pending.
