TONOPAH — Authorities say a "police situation" that has closed part of westbound I-10 in western Arizona involved a standoff between a suspect and police officers.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says the Tuesday morning situation occurred at a rest area and involved "a suspect engaged with police officers."

Graves said he couldn't provide additional information, including whether the suspect was in custody or whether there were any injuries.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says westbound traffic is being detoured around the closure by exiting westbound I-10 at Salome Road at Milepost 81 and then returning to I-10 at Milepost 45 via U.S. 60 and Vicksburg Road.

ADOT says eastbound I-10 is open.
