Sweetwater Wetlands β€” an oasis-like preserve in the midst of metro Tucson β€” is teeming in the springtime with ducks, turtles and vibrant green vegetation.

The wetlands site, near Prince Road and Interstate 10, serves a dual purpose as a wastewater treatment facility and lush habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Bird-watchers, walkers and other nature enthusiasts are welcome to enter the area free of charge and walk short, easy trails to ponds and wildlife viewing areas.

Rod Mondt, an environmental activist and bird-watcher, took in the sights one day this week and spotted a hummingbird nest amid the diverse vegetation.
