Nearly 400 inmates at the Pima County Adult Detention Center were evacuated Friday evening after an electrical fire broke out in a maintenance area of the complex, the Pima County Sheriffโs Department said.
Two corrections officers were taken to the hospital for medical assessments, and others were treated by on-scene paramedics.
The fire started shortly before 8:30 p.m. in a non-housing maintenance area of the main jail annex, a department news release said.
Tucson Fire quickly extinguished the fire, but not before 380 inmates were evacuated from the main jail annex out of โan abundance of cautionโ, the sheriffโs department said.
All inmates and corrections officers were accounted for and will be medically cleared, the department said.
Detectives from the departmentโs arson unit are working to determine the cause of the fire.
