STK emergency

Nearly 400 inmates at the Pima County Adult Detention Center were evacuated Friday evening after an electrical fire broke out in a maintenance area of the complex, the Pima County Sheriffโ€™s Department said.

Two corrections officers were taken to the hospital for medical assessments, and others were treated by on-scene paramedics.

The fire started shortly before 8:30 p.m. in a non-housing maintenance area of the main jail annex, a department news release said.

Tucson Fire quickly extinguished the fire, but not before 380 inmates were evacuated from the main jail annex out of โ€œan abundance of cautionโ€, the sheriffโ€™s department said.

All inmates and corrections officers were accounted for and will be medically cleared, the department said.

Detectives from the departmentโ€™s arson unit are working to determine the cause of the fire.
