Heat wave - City of Tucson pools

Angel Lopez, 4, finds some relief from the heat by dashing through the ground fountains at Quincie Douglas Pool on the south side of Tucson.

The Old Pueblo hit 115 degrees at the Tucson International Airport at 3:43 p.m. Monday and the temperature tied the record set on this date in 2016, according to the National Weather Service.

The high is the third hottest ever in Tucson, said Jordan Pegram, a meteorologist with the weather service. Β The hottest was 117 degrees on June 26, 1990.

The low Monday was 73 degrees at 5:45 a.m.

At 12:25 p.m. the official temperature was 110 degrees, but it was surpassed several hours later. All groans aside, it hit 110 degrees last year on June 4.

On Tuesday, it is predicted to hit 114 degrees with a low of 81 degrees, said Pegram. And on Wednesday the high is expected to hit 113 degrees and the low 82 degrees.

In Phoenix, high temperatures could top 120 degrees this week.
