A man was convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his stepfather in November 2015.

James L. Mason Jr. was found guilty in a jury trial before Pima County Superior Court Judge Scott Rash.

During a family fight, Mason, who then was 43, stabbed Alan Nielsen, 72, in the chest with a large hunting knife, authorities said. Nielsen was taken by Tucson Fire Department paramedics to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson where he was pronounced dead.

Tucson police officers were dispatched to a home in the 6000 block of East Hampton Street, near East Grant and North Wilmot roads, about a fight involving a knife.

Nielsen's wife and Mason's nephew were inside the home at the time of the stabbing, police said.
