A 10-month-old baby died from his injuries on Mother's Day and his mother and her boyfriend were arrested on child abuse charges.

Tucson police officers found the baby, Jose Valenzuela, with life-threatening injuries on May 11 at an apartment complex at 2800 S. Mission Road. The injuries reportedly were the result of rolling off a couch, Tucson police said in a news release Monday.

However, when the baby was taken to a hospital doctors told police the baby had "significant new and old injuries that were not consistent with a fall from a couch." The baby died from his injuries May 14.

Police arrested the baby's mother, Salma Rodriguez, 25, on two felony counts of child abuse. Rodriguez's boyfriend, Ivan Portillo Herrera, 22, was arrested on one felony count of child abuse.
