A man walking through an intersection on the cityโ€™s north side Sunday evening was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, Tucson police say.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of North First Avenue and East Fort Lowell Road, Tucson police said Monday in a news release.

The vehicle was headed south on First Avenue when the driver struck the pedestrian. Investigators are working to determine the pedestrianโ€™s location in relation to the road and crosswalk at the time of the crash, the release said.

The name of the pedestrian was not released Monday pending family notification, the release said.

Police continue to look for the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tipster line.

There have been 29 pedestrian fatalities in the city so far this year. There were 42 pedestrians killed in the city at the same time in 2022, Tucson police said.
