A man died three days after he was injured in a three-vehicle crash last week, Tucson police say.
Mark Leonard Mason, 52, was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after the June 12 collision and died Saturday, June 15, police said in a news release.
The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at East 22nd Street and South Cherrybell Stravenue.
The Tucson Police Department gave the following account:
The collision involved a bronze 2014 BMW 13, driven by Mason, a grey 2018 Honda Accord and a red 2013 Scion FR-Se.
Mason was driving a bronze 2014 BMW 13 westbound on East 22nd and was turning left onto Cherrybell when he struck a grey 2018 Honda Accord that was eastbound in the middle lane.
The Accord kept traveling eastbound after the initial impact, and debris from it struck a red 2013 Scion FR-Se that was stopped on Cherrybell waiting to take a right turn onto 22nd Street.
Police said the other two drivers were not injured.
Investigations determined the major contributing factor to the collision was Mason’s attempt to make a left turn on an amber traffic signal and his failure to yield, police said.
