A storm system in the Tucson valley and mountains is expected to bring snow showers by Saturday morning near Oracle and east of Tucson, according to the National Weather Service.

Between 12 to 36 inches of snowfall was expected above 7,000 feet beginning Friday nigh through Saturday.

Lower but significant amounts of snow was predicted as low as 4,000 feet.

As of 7:30 p.m., more than 500 customers were without power on Mount Lemmon, according to a Trico Electric Cooperative outage map.

A winter storm warning is in effect for elevations above 5,000 feet through noon on Saturday, and a wind advisory through 8 a.m. Saturday with gusts reaching up to 60 mph.Β 

These winds have the potential of causing blizzard-like conditions in the mountains.
