Ward 3 candidates

From left, Paul Durham, Thomas Tronsdal and Felicia Chew will face off in the Ward 3 Democratic primary in August for the right to face independent Gary Watson, right, in November.

Tucson residents who want to vote in the Aug. 29 primary elections must be registered to vote by midnight Monday, July 31.

The city is holding an all mail-in ballot election for Ward 3, Ward 5 and Ward 6. Only Wards 3 and 6 have contested primary races.

Since the election will be conducted entirely by mail, it’s important that any voter who needs to update their address does so as soon as possible, according to a news release from Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said new voter registration forms must be filled out by anyone who has moved or changed their name since their last registration or who is a new county resident. If you are registering for the first time, you must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.

There are several ways to register or update your voter record:

  • If you have an Arizona driver’s license or state ID card, you can go to the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division internet portal at servicearizona.com to register or update information.
  • Forms are available at numerous locations, including the Pima County Recorder’s Office, Arizona Department of Motor Vehicle branches, post offices, libraries, political party headquarters and City Hall.
  • Voters can download forms from the recorder’s website, complete them and mail them in.
  • For more information about voter registration, call the Recorder’s Office at 724-4330.

Here are the listed candidates for the primary elections. Ballots will be mailed on Aug. 9 to registered voters in the three wards.

Ward 3 — Democrats Felicia Chew, Paul Durham, Thomas Tronsdal and write-in candidate Dan Linhart; independent Gary Watson. The winner of the Democratic primary will face the independent candidate in November.

Ward 5 — Incumbent Councilman Richard Fimbres, a Democrat, is the only listed candidate.

Ward 6 — Incumbent Councilman Steve Kozachik, a Democrat; Republican Mariano Rodriguez; Green Party candidates Mike Cease and Michael Oatman. Kozachik, Rodriguez and the Green Party primary winner will face off in November.

The city’s election publication, “The Choice Is Yours,” will be mailed to each household with a registered city voter in the three wards beginning Aug. 2. The publication contains voter information on candidates in English and Spanish.
