Reid Park Zoo's elephant calf Mapenzi has been exploring her environment and socializing with the rest of the herd more.
One night, Penzi woke up to nurse and when she was ready to go back to sleep, she nudged Nandi. “Nandi got up, and (Penzi) plopped down where Nandi was — where it was warm,” elephant supervisor Cassie Dodds said.
Although 9-month-old Penzi has been more food-motivated in the last month, she still has time to make muddy slip-and-slides with her sister Nandi.
