The Tucson metro area, along with most of south-central Arizona, will be under an excessive heat warning Thursday. But the forecast from the National Weather Service here also calls for a chance of rain through the weekend.

Tucson will be under an excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, the weather service here says.

The warning will cover the Tucson metro area along with south-central Arizona, the National Weather service here said on Wednesday.

High temperatures in Tucson are expected to reach 108 degrees, but the area's temperatures could span between 106 degrees and 113 degrees, the weather service said in an updated forecast Thursday.

And there will be a 30% chance of rain in region, the weather service said. However, the incoming moisture from the southeast increases the potential for dry thunderstorms from Tucson eastward between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. today, the forecast shows.

Further, Β a blowing dust advisory is in effect Thursday for Pinal and eastern Pima counties from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., the weather service says.

Thursday's heat warning means there are major risk levels for heat-related illnesses.

β€œIt’s about five to seven degrees above normal for this time of year,” said Julia Tetrault, a National Weather Service forecaster.

While this may be the beginning of an earlier than predicted monsoon, Tatrault said, Tucsonans should still watch out for signs of heat stroke and know when to seek medical attention.

β€œI wouldn’t do anything strenuous until after the sun sets,” Tetrault said. β€œWhen we have really, really strong and high temperatures, checking in on your family and loved ones that might be more susceptible to heat (is important).”

Friday will offer some more cloud coverage, dropping high temperatures to about 103 degrees through the weekend.

Showers chances will reach into the weekend as well, with a 50% chance on Friday, followed by a 60% chance on Saturday and 50% chance on Sunday, the forecast says.
