A weather system moving into the area beginning Tuesday evening is expected to bring the possibility of rain and freezing temperatures to Tucson later this week, the weather service says.
Rain is possible across the metro Tucson area beginning Tuesday evening. It’ll then switch to a mix of rain — and possibly some snow — by early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Tucson.
Snow will likely fall in higher elevations and areas east of Tucson, the forecast shows.
The chance of temperatures falling below freezing on Thursday and Friday mornings in the Tucson metro area range from 50% to 90%, the weather service said. Thursday’s low temperature in Tucson on Thursday could be 27 degrees, the weather service predicts.
The weather system also will bring windy conditions to the area. Gusts of up to 35 mph are possible Wednesday for metro Tucson and areas east of the city, the forecast shows.
The forecast is a big change for the area, December was the third month out of the past four with record-high average temperatures.
And for the year, Tucson’s annual average temperature was the third highest since weather record-keeping began here in 1895.
