A Tropical Depression called Twelve-E off the western coast of Mexico might bring moisture into southeastern Arizona later this week, the weather service says.
Twelve-E is expected to become Tropical Storm Elena, but its potential impact on Tucson’s weather depends on the path it takes moving north into the Baja region, the National Weather Service in Tucson said.
A Tropical Depression moving across northern Mexico is expected to strengthen and could travel close enough to Arizona to increase rain chances in the region later this week, forecasters said Tuesday.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds Tuesday were near 45 mph.
There’s a slight chance of rain in the region Wednesday, but forecasters are keeping an eye on a tropical depression in Mexico that might boost rain chances here late this week.
The storm was expected to keep strengthening and could become a hurricane by Wednesday, The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
Wednesday’s high temperature in Tucson is expected to be 99 degrees with about a 30% chance of rain.
