People cool down at Mansfield Pool.

Tucson hit 112 degrees Monday, breaking the previous high temperature of 111 for July 8 set in 1920 and 1994.

And Phoenix blew past its heat record for July 8 by 3 degrees, as the thermometer there climbed to 118. The previous record was 115 in 1985. 

The weather service is forecasting a near record high for Tuesday in Tucson, as well. The Old Pueblo's record high for July 9 is 110.

In fact, there's an excessive heat warning in place through Wednesday evening. 

Monday was the first day Tucson has broken a record recently, although on July 5 the high of 111 tied the record set in 1993.
