Tucson is under an extreme heat warning today and Thursday, as high temperatures across the metro area are expected to be at or near all-time August records.

Take precautions and limit time outdoors, the National Weather Service in Tucson says in its forecast. Avoid being outside between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and stay hydrated.

Also, isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into evening. The storms, however, will mostly be located south and southwest of Tucson.

The strongest storms could include gusty winds and brief downpours, the weather service said.
