The Tucson metro area has been placed under a winter weather advisory until Saturday night, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service in Tucson expanded the advisory from high elevations here to valley areas until 7 p.m.
A mix of rain and snow was expected across the Tucson metro area Saturday morning. Snow was more likely late in the morning, the weather service said.
Snow levels could drop to as low as 2,200 feet, before rising this evening to about 3,000, the weather service said.
Portions of the Tucson metro area could get up to 2 inches of snow, even more in area south and east of the city.
There is a 70 percent chance of below freezing temperatures on Sunday and Monday mornings in the metro area, the weather service said.
Catalina Highway, the road to Mount Lemmon, was closed Saturday to the general public.
