A weather system that brought windy conditions to Tucson early Wednesday brought Tucson a blast of wintry weather that had been missing here most of the season.
A freeze warning is in effect Thursday and Friday for the extended metro area, the National Weather Service in Tucson said. Overnight lows could drop to as low as 25 degrees west of the Tucson metro area, and as low as 14 degrees in areas east of the city, the forecast shows.
For Tucson, the high temperature is expected to be about 58 degrees on Thursday and 57 on Friday.
The high temperature here on Saturday is forecast at 63.
The low temperature for Tucson is about 32 degrees every day through Saturday, the weather service says.
Shortly after noon Wednesday, a band of rain and heavy snow showers extended from southwest Cochise County northwest to the Oracle Junction area, according to the weather service. Snow in parts of the area was expected to continue into the evening.
Tucson International Airport, where no measurable rain has fallen since Nov. 3, got a trace of rain Wednesday. βIt sprinkled for 12 minutes,β said weather service meteorologist Gary Zell. The cityβs official weather stats are recorded at the airport.
