A fire that started in the Redington Pass area just before 2 p.m. on Sunday had spread to 800 acres by evening.

The Racetrack Fire was burning actively in grass and brush as of 8 p.m. and was 0 percent contained, according to Coronado National Forest spokeswoman Heidi Schewel.

Schewel said the fireโ€™s rapid spread was influenced by winds from storm cells in the area.

Three fire crews, three fire engines, three air tankers and three helicopters were dispatched to battle the fire. Schewel said the crews were in full suppression mode.

The cause of the wildfire is under investigation, but may have been human-caused, Schewel said.
