Β Re: the May 18 article "Pima supervisors ban extended stays on county medians."

As one who spoke before the Pima County Board of Supervisors on this issue, I know many of the arguments for and against it. However, Supervisor Richard Elias' reason for opposing it, "there are shades of 1070 in the ordinance," is a new one to me.

This activity has been prohibited in most of Elias' district for some time (because most of his district is within Tucson's city limits.) Shall we use his rationale to conclude that he and his district have been condoning "shades of 1070"? Many who claim to represent us have gotten reckless with their words. Their comments are destructive, damage our society and serve to incite. Elias ought to use care when he speaks. Further, his energy would be better spent working on legitimate activities that help those in need. Less talk, more action.
