Re: the Oct. 19 story "Donation expands Tucson Mountain Park by 65 acres"
We in Pima County are so fortunate that landowners such as Martha Hawes value our public lands enough that they are willing to donate their own property for the enjoyment of future generations).
As a board member of the Arizona Land and Water Trust, I am proud of the Trust’s work with other generous and willing landowners and Pima County to protect the Robles Pass unit of Tucson Mountain Park and the Raúl M. Grijalva Canoa Ranch Conservation Park, among other parcels.
In many cases, like Hawes’, the property owner and their descendants can continue to live on the protected land. When that land has been a working farm or ranch, they can continue to work it.
We and those who come after us all benefit from the responsible and visionary stewardship carried out by magnanimous landowners, Pima County and the Trust.
