Re: Jan. 4 column โ€œMcCain sets US boundaries on trip to Russian borderโ€

I would like to congratulate Mr. Tim Steller on an excellent column on Russia and Vladimir Putin. However, I must take exception to the comments attributed to Dr. John "Pat" Willerton of the University of Arizona, who clearly ascribes to the Moscow-centric philosophy, which rationalizes the re-creation of Russian imperialism, when he states that he has a โ€œtotally different view of Russia.โ€

Instead of blaming the United States for encroaching on Russiaโ€™s โ€œsphere of influenceโ€ he might well accept the failure of the Communist-Russian experiment in the enslavement of nations. Yes, President โ€“elect Trump should try to negotiate but not make peace with Putin because peace in the Russian language has two meanings: peace and world. Dr. Willerton suggests to give a โ€œchance to try to make peace with Putinโ€™s Russian, especially over Ukraine. Does he seriously suggest agreeing to hand over Ukraine?
