The Star editorial page January 8 was split left and right between Patricia Maisch explaining that she is answering a perceived call to action, to advocacy for "common sense measures to keep guns out of the hands of people who are a danger to self or others."
The right hand column, by Rep. Martha McSally and Crystal Kasnoff, advocates a permanent memorial, honoring the victims and the courage and compassion Jan. 8, 2011 evoked. The writers of both columns are working to make changes in our local, even national environment.
I hope the creators of the brick and mortar memorial are also putting their energies into honoring the lives sacrificed six years ago by working to create legislation and support services to prevent future carnage. Without this, the artistic effort, while commendable, seems hollow.
