Re: the April 5 article “Plenty of work remains to close the gender pay gap”

It was surprising to see Rep. Martha McSally’s photo with this article because it gives the impression that she is someone who is working to close the gender pay gap. Her voting record does not support that supposition.

In September 2015, she voted to block consideration of the paycheck fairness act. This bill would have ended the pay gap between men and women and ensured equal pay for equal work. It would have protected workers from retaliation for sharing information about their wages.

She voted against a motion, in April 2015, to protect a woman’s right to demand equal wages by excluding claims of employment discrimination from the underlying bill that raised new obstacles for Americans to seek remedy in the courts.

These are but two examples of her voting against pay equality for women. Actions speak louder than words.
