Re: the Oct. 4 article ”Tucson program finds innovative way to pair cats with seniors"

As a semi-retired house call veterinarian, I am lucky enough to work with the feline rescue organization described in the article. Only a few months earlier Hearts That Purr Feline Guardians' director had showed me a picture similar to that on your front page. Another foster cat was sitting on a hospice patient’s lap, comforting her as no human could. The cats in both of these pictures came from shelters only days before they were to be euthanized. Two of my neighbors have lost wives to cancer. Both had pets that never left their spouse’s sides and comforted them until the very end.

Consider adopting or fostering a homeless pet. Whether saved for their sake or for ours, a four-legged friend can be a very special addition to any home.
